Went to Cheltenham yesterday for my first ever sampling of live horse racing. A great day, and yours truly backed two winners and a second-place horse (on an each-way bet) in three of the five races I bet on. Knowing that I could easily get addicted to this kind of thing, the most I bet on any race was four quid (two quid per horse). My best win was 15 quid for a two-pound bet (must have been 13/2).
I think sticking to small bets in future is very much the way to go, as well as limiting myself to betting only on races I'm actually attending. It was very much beginner's luck, although I tended to stick with the shorter-priced horses. Having said that, I put two pound on a 8-15 favourite in a five-horse race, only to see him stumble over two jumps before falling at the next one. Of course, the most important thing was that the horse and rider were both okay.
Just watching the highlights of Blues 2-1 defeat at Newcastle. We were lucky to concede just two in the first half! I don't think we can have too many complaints about the result... Here's hoping we bounce back against Bolton on Tuesday - we're still 11 points clear of the relegation spots, so no need to panic just yet!
