There's a lot of raw emotion surrounding Savage's acromonious departure from Blues, but one truth has emerged from all of this: Savage did not move to Blackburn to be closer to his family. Everton, who are clearly closer to both Wrexham and Savage's in-laws, made a late bid on Friday for him; however, Savage turned them down.
Savage now claims he's the most hated man in Birmingham. Sadly that might be true, but for me I'm not going to give him the satisfaction. He's gone now and we get on with life, however hard the adjustment might prove to be. All that comment proves is how insecure he is - that even now he needs to be the centre of attention, whether it's being lauded or villified.
Unlike other Bluenoses, though, I believe he'll do well at Blackburn - at least initially. He has a lot to prove, and that brings out the best in him. Blues fans expecting his career to fall away will be disappointed in the short term at the very least.
For me, Salif Diao will hopefully prove to be a capable replacement - our style will change, but if he can sit in front of the back four and offer extra protection while Carter, Izzett or Anderton keep hurting the opposition at the other end, it'll be a good move. Plus Bruce is still on the trail of at least two more players - considering how small our squad is, we still need another right-sided midfielder and maybe even an extra striker.
