Tsunami update

Apparently Britons have pledged 76 million GBP (around $150m) to the tsunami relief cause. Out of this horrific event comes the seeds of something big. It appears the British have a heart after all, and as the UK government responds by claiming there is "no cap" on the amount of aid it might give from the public purse, I wonder if enough people will see that they can make a difference in the world today? We're in a position where our generosity is being matched by our government's, keen to court public support over this. Could the next step be something bigger? Where the world's populations start demanding that the obscene amounts of money spent on national defence find their way into something more productive? Why spend billions on souped up killing machines when we can spend a fraction of the money on early warning systems or technology that helps keep people alive?

We can perchance to dream...
