I see climate change was conveniently shunted to the back of the agenda at the G8. Nothing new was agreed, and while Africa will benefit short term from the debt relief, what happens in the long term when global warming exacerbates the problems already there?
Oh, and Bob Geldof's accusation that other campaigners were "carping" about the final Africa deal makes me sick. This man is far less qualified to talk about Africa's problems than the campaigners he's attacked, so why not listen to them instead of trying to deflect attention away from the fact that Live G8 - however noble its aims - missed the point? If we truly want Africa to be hauled out of poverty, famine and everything else, every single human being in the western world must made radical changes to their lifestyle. Until that happens, signing petitions and attending gigs to feel better about yourself will achieve nothing lasting or substantial.
