Vegas drying up?

It's slap bang in the middle of one of the longest droughts in history, and now it appears Vegas' water consumption is threatening to leave it shipping water from other areas within the next 15-20 years (see here). Even if we accept the oil lobby's belief that global warming doesn't exist, it's increasingly apparent that the world's thirst for ever-increasing consumption is starting to have an effect on the world around us.

Ironically, the hotels aren't the major problem in Vegas - it's the rapidly growing city and its inhabitants care-free use of water that could see Vegas bone dry within the next 50 years. The saddest thing is the report's conclusion: "It seems there are too few of us that are willing to stand up and say we need to protect our environment." How much longer must we wait until people wake up and start acting more responsibly?
