Barn Owl recovering

The Barn Owl has a history of over two million years in Britain, ten times longer than human colonisation here. Yet until the 1980s its population dropped alarmingly to near-extinction levels. Since then it's remained stubbornly flat, but according to today's Independent, there's evidence that a small - but welcome - rise has been monitored. Ironically it looks like global warming may be playing a small role, as the population have laid eggs earlier than previously recorded, meaning many breeding pairs may be able to raise a second brood later this summer, helping to boost numbers again.

Read all about it here, and let us hope it's allowed to continue its recovery.
