Labour is targeting David Cameron as a "political chameleon", according to today's Independent (see here). Now I don't trust Cameron right now - his words appeal, but it'll be his actions that swing me for or against him, but the idea of the Labour party accusing another politician of abandoning his principles is just laughable.
Labour sold its principles down the river in 1997 to get elected. Ironically, since setting up a whole new set of principles in 97 it's conveniently ditched those it's found politically expedient to do so, such as reforming the electoral system or actually delivering on its environmental pledges - you know, the sort of policies that require tough, far-reaching decisions that are statesmanlike rather than populist (or what Labour perceives to be populist).
Over the weekend I've come to the conclusion I don't trust any politicans. A crisis pops up, some Labour spin doctor - sorry, minister - comes out with a reassuring statement and I don't believe a word of it. Sadly, this cynicism has extended to the other political parties too. Maybe I should just give into petty prejudice and vote BNP like so many morons are threatening to do, or maybe I should see this as the time to sever my links with mainstream party politics and finally, firmly place my foot in the Green camp?
