Then there were eight...
... at one point, the talk was of expanding our solar system to include three new planets (including Ceres, a spherical body between Mars and Jupiter). Instead, astronomers have voted to demote Pluto (see here). So, for the first time since 1930, we'll be back to eight planets. It's a shame for Pluto - and its moon, Charon - but it's probably going to be a bigger shame for this web site:
