England bounce back...

... What a couple of days it's been for English cricket. The doom and gloom surrounding the first Test has evaporated thanks to an encouraging batting performance on a decent wicket in Adelaide. Kudos to Paul Collingwood for a magnificent double century - he's the kind of player who once he gets to 100 tends to go on and get a big score. Well done to Pietersen too - on another day his 158 would have grabbed the headlines. The only sour note was Geraint Jones failing yet again with the bat - he is picked ahead of Chris Read for his batting ability, but he rarely justifies his selection on those grounds.

Even better - England declared on 561-6 and snatched an early wicket to leave the Aussies 28-1 at the close. I still think we'll struggle to bowl them out twice - I can't believe Panesar was overlooked again - but at least they've made a battling response to the early setback. This England vintage is far removed from the old sides with the soft underbelly, who capitulated from the word go and only bothered to draw or win a test once the series was lost.

I wonder if Blues can bounce back in similar fashion today?
