Recycling is clearly better for the environment than merely chucking stuff in the rubbish, but it still smacks as obscene that a container or receptacle is only used once before being melted down and then converted into something else that gets used once, then melted down again, etc...
Which is why I was thrilled to find in Sudbury on the weekend a health food shop that had two large gallon containers of Ecover washing up liquid and another Ecover product that customers can use to top up their empty Ecover bottles to use again. There's no major saving (10p on purchasing a new bottle from Sainsbury's), but it's a brilliant idea and one I hope to find elsewhere too, preferably in Colchester.
I can't change other people's behaviour, but finding small things like this brings me cheer as it helps me modify my own behaviour and be that little bit more environmentally friendly...
