Sporting weekend success

First, England won the second of three matches against Australia in the cricket to surprisingly clinch the tri-series final 2-0. Although the weather played a part, with numerous rain breaks eventually forcing an abandonment, Australia were never anywhere near the continually revised targets, and kept losing wickets with reassuring regularity. A massive upset considering what has gone before, but a welcome shot in the arm for England ahead of the World Cup next month in the West Indies. If nothing else, they will hopefully take that form into the competition and not disgrace themselves.

Blues are second again after a nervy, but (barely) deserved 1-0 victory over Stoke. A late goal by Gary McSheffrey made up for the woeful decision made to disallow an earlier effort from Cameron Jerome. We're now a point clear in second spot, with two games in hand on everyone else around us. The game was scrappy, but this is just how we began our last good run, grinding out results, so hopefully it's a sign of things to come.

In the rugby, England didn't cover themselves with glory against the Italians, but did enough to win. Ireland take on France this afternoon, and the French side are staying in the Dublin hotel where my sister is currently doing a work placement - apparently she's on the bar tonight, so hopefully there will be plenty of tips coming her way...
