More common sense...

... who'd have thunk it? Yet more sensible proposals coming out of the Tory Party - this time, from Ken Clarke (see here). Not only does it expose Blair for the authoritarian prime minister he actually is, it hopefully result in David Cameron adopting a far better system of rule than this Labour Party. After all, why the hell do unelected advisors get more say than elected officials? I wouldn't mind if these advisors were experts, but they're clearly not.

If you're wondering what cabinet-style government is like, think back to John Major's term in office. If you get past the scandals and affairs (all of which have been matched by Labour in their nine years in power), you find a system of government that was quietly doing its business. By the time Labour came in, they inherited a strong economic base (a base they've since squandered) on top of other quiet improvements. I never thought I'd say that about a Tory administration - and I sure as hell won't be voting Tory at the next election - but it shows you just how low Labour have stooped that I'm looking back to Major's premiership with something approaching a level of nostalgia...

Just imagine - a government that runs the country based on its belief in what it thinks serves the national interest, instead of thinking about what might make it appear "popular" in the eyes of the media, or constantly reacting in a knee-jerk fashion. Maybe we wouldn't be staring down the barrel of a gun if Blair et al had shown just an inkling of genuine leadership over the past nine years.
