Sort it out Labour

A 60 per cent reduction by 2050 is never going to be enough, but at least it's a start. Yet this Labour government is determined to undermine its efforts before it begins. George Monbiot reveals how two government departments - Transport and Communities and Local Government - are already undermining efforts to cut carbon consumption before they've begun. I'm not surprised to see Ruth Kelly at the heart of this - incompetence is her middle name (remember how her department overturned a planning decision made by Colchester Borough Council to stop houses being built on boggy ground near the river in town).
