It could only be Blues...

... before I start, I would like to make it clear this post is not about eating humble pie, admitting I'm wrong or anything like that. Just because everything's changed in the past three matches after my last despondent post about football doesn't mean this is a post that fate can seize on as evidence of temptation from yours truly. If such a post is to be made, it will not be made until around 3pm on Sunday 6th May. Nothing has - at this moment - changed in my opinion of the manager, honest.

Good, now that's out of the way, let's get on to what matters. Blues travelled to local rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers for a lunchtime kick-off. After all that's gone on in the past two weeks we suddenly found ourselves in the unique position of going back to the top of the pile thanks to two wins and a massive favour from Colchester United of all teams yesterday when they comprehensively beat Sunderland 3-1 at Layer Road (I heard the reaction to all of the second-half goals as they went in). ColU weren't doing us a favour out of altruism; they're suddenly sitting a single point outside the play offs, which would be an immense achievement for a side struggling at the wrong end of League One only 18 months ago.

Anyway, I digress. The match kicked off and after a tepid 25 minutes or so it suddenly sprang into life. Blues hit the bar, but Wolves should have been two or three up - only our young goalkeeper Colin Doyle kept us in it. So into the second half and suddenly Andrew Cole - yes, the treble winner from Manchester United - scores his first goal for Blues! We're 1-0 up. The Five Live Extra commentary team can see no way back for Wolves, so naturally Blues gift them - not once, but twice in the space of five minutes. 2-1 Wolves. Wolves then have a penalty turned down (stonewall according to the commentary team), Blues go up the other end and win a corner. Nicholas Bendtner powers in a header to bring the scores level at 2-2. It's enough to put us back into second spot on goal difference, and if the commentary team are to be believed, it's more than we deserve. So Cameron Jerome springs the offside trap (clearly onside from the highlights) and fires in from a narrow angle with two minutes on the clock remaining - 3-2 Blues! Not to be outdone, Wolves win a penalty deep into injury time. I have a good feeling about it. Up steps the penalty taker - on a hat trick - and our heroic keeper makes an easy save. The game is up! We're (un)worthy winners!

Every Wolves fan will feel robbed! Now they know how we felt when they robbed us back at St Andrews earlier in the season - the most one-sided 1-0 game became 1-1 when Gary Breen got away with elbowing our player. They went up the other end and equalised with two minutes to go. So forgive me if I don't shed any tears this afternoon.

Congrats on the win, altho nothing is safe yet. Lets just hope the Blues aren't true to form. Sunderland and Derby both have an easier ride to the finish.
