Why this country can never truly be democratic

I've been a fan of electoral reform for a long time, but I've never seen the argument made as brilliantly as it has by Johann Hari in the Independent - see here. Unlike George Monbiot, Hari's opinions don't always coincide with my own, but here he has my full, unwavering support. Forget all the rubbish the opponents of PR spout for keeping our out-dated and unfair electoral system in place - how anyone can continue to defend it beggars belief, because you're disenfranchising all but a handful of voters by doing so, and how can that be democratic?
