Yesterday Toni heard the baby's heartbeat for the first time at the doctor's surgery - I missed out because I'd stayed in the waiting room after feeling like a spare part the last time we'd visited. But today the midwife came around for her first routine visit and I was able to hear the strong heartbeat of Petit Pois ("Little P") for the first time. Wow! Thankfully so far everything's gone well - Toni's healthy and scoring all the right numbers with iron counts, etc.
It's still not quite real, but I'm sure if I'm still not convinced by the time baby makes an appearance I'll soon be disavowed of that notion the first time he or she opens his or her little mouth to scream...
