I'm 32 today (officially I turned 32 at 1.30am this morning - 9.30am GMT - and we celebrated with a fire alarm that sent us bleary eyed to the hotel lobby). But before regaling you with today's events, here's what happened yesterday.
MON: felt much better after a decent breakfast and we hopped on the bus to the University to visit the Museum of Anthropology. Got dropped off in the centre of campus, and trudged the kilometre to the museum, at which point its opening hours reminded us that it was closed on a Monday.
All was not lost (no, I didn't break us in). Our bus tickets were still valid, so we hopped back on and jumped off at Granville Island, where we found plenty that will thrill mum when we all return next year. Plenty of souvenir and craft shops, including one with half a wall of rubber stamps (mother will appreciate this). Picked up plenty of Christmas presents, and even treated myself to a 40p bookmark to accompany my reading of Harry Potter V.
Took the Aquabus across English Bay back to the downtown district, whereupon it started to rain, and we trudged back with a heavy heart to the hotel. Early evening meal and thence to an early night, not helped by some dodgy food (the teriyaki sauce, perchance?)...
TUE: Am 32 today, hurrah! Toni bought two more of her pressies with her - a long-sleeved t-shirt and hooded jumper that I've worn today. Also had four cards with me - including one from nanna, which I appreciated for the humour.
Took off on the Seabus across to North Vancouver, where we headed for a snow-clad Grouse Mountain via cable car. Bought even more pressies - Christ knows how big the bill will be when we get home, but thank goodness I was paid last Friday - and took out some extra cash from an ATM in a grocery store, where we discovered that squash is a valuable, rare commodity that costs around $6 (three squids) for a small bottle! Oh, the lives we lead (don't forget to check out Toni's blog here - it's bound to be more exciting, and full of relevant detail).
Right, back to the hotel with our loot, hopefully via the theatre where we hope to book tickets for a performance of a farce written by an Englishman (but only if the discount voucher we have is valid, otherwise it's off to the cinema). I see nothing new is happening in the world of BCFC, that Bush is currently gurning his way through Canada and I haven't the slightest idea what's going on in Britain right now. Please, don't tell me...
