Labour's poor record on the environment has been exposed by one of its own think tanks. Full report in today's Independent here. Considering this government doesn't try to hide behind oil-funded institutions like its US equivalent, there's no excuse for this poor showing, except in the context of the rest of its record.

Blair wants a third term next year just so he can outlive Thatcher - how about we, as a population, show our American cousins how it's done and vote him out of office (or even into a minority government where he's forced to step down?)...

How a week can change one's complexions on football. Blues achieved a historic 1-0 win at Anfield yesterday against Liverpool. As the scoreline suggests, we were battered for much of the game, the home side had a penalty appeal turned down (not as clear cut as Messrs Hansen and Lawrenson of the BBC would have you believe, especially when viewed in real time) and won with our only shot on target, a knock-in from one yard from a corner.

It doesn't stop any of the criticism I made last week - the manager again picked Savage and Damien Johnson, and while the former had one of his better games, the latter was pretty anonymous as usual. I still fear for us this season, as we clearly can't create chances or score goals and Bruce's comments about our performances in the press all week are a million miles away from what I've seen on the pitch. Still, the probable return of Clinton Morrison up front next week gives us a glimmer that we may scrape enough points between now and the transfer window when we can try to add a fourth attacking option to our side.

BTW, the win was historic because it was our first there in 25 years, and only our second in 28 attempts, which stretches back 40 years I think. And if you think I'm making excuses about the penalty, we should not forget how Liverpool won a very soft penalty against us on their ground last season when 1-0 down (they went on to win 3-1 and wreck my birthday). If yesterday's penalty was definite (and strictly speaking it was, even if the ref didn't see it) then it merely evens up last year.
