Where to begin? Last night, we had our Christmas do - as in four freelancers (including myself) went out for a curry. Not content with this, I managed to squeeze in what will probably be my last five-a-side game of the year beforehand too. That was a disappointment - despite the array of talent (plus myself) on show for our team, we were well beaten. However, I don't think I disgraced myself any more than anyone else, and I did score two well-taken goals (just call me the Poacher) - as we only scored around 10 all evening, I obviously contributed my bit on that front!
This morning I opened my inbox to see another offer of work from a new company set up by an old Future stalwart. Home Computer Magazine is a free PDF download from here, and I've been asked if I'll write three pages on Windows XP tips. Hopefully a commission will be forthcoming and it'll open up another avenue of work for me. Any fellow freelance mates reading this - I'll pass on your details whether or not it does materialise into multiple commissions!
Oh, and today is the day when the last of my technological loot arrives. I've gone on a mad spending spree recently (the scariest thing, maybe, is that it's all now paid for, so I'm not left with a massive credit-card bill), and the new iMac is set up and running, while today I get a larger TFT monitor (so Toni gets my 15-inch model, and her scrapstore gets her old hulking 17-inch CRT) and some other bits and pieces.
And I see Steve Bruce has finally run out of patience with Robbie Savage, saying he won't stand in his way if he wants to leave. I think reading between the lines we can see that the rumours of a deal involving Blackburn may be close to the truth. If that's the case, I'd like to thank Savage for his immense contribution to the club's first two and a half years in the Premier League, and wish him well for the future. It probably means Villa will beat us at St Andrew's in March, but at least Sav will go to his retirement knowing that he never lost a derby game against them, either for Leicester for for us. Despite my recent criticism (and I must admit that I'll be glad when he's not making headlines in the papers for us week in, week out), I am grateful for all he's done for the club.
