Received a letter from the council today informing me that my green bin should only be used for green waste and that it will be taken away if I don't use it as such. This is fair enough - on Monday I watched next door dump goodness knows how much rubbish on the front of the drive, obscuring my recycling bin from view. Considering it was recycling day and not rubbish collection, it was clear that they still do not understand how the system works.
So I went outside and told them. I also noticed that the bulk of their rubbish appeared to consist of green waste in black bins, so I foolishly offered them the use of our green bin. Result, they overload the bin with said waste - so the lid can't be shut - and sit back. What I didn't know is that the green waste masked actual rubbish in each bag, hence the fact the rubbish wasn't removed when I returned, and now this letter. I've emailed the council to apologise and inform them of what happened - after all, I have half-a-dozen emails to one council employee on this whole sticky mess, so it's not as if I made it up! I suspect I won't hear another word out of them, and you can be sure that I won't be offering any of my bins to these particular neighbours again...
