Alaska and oil

It appears the House of Representatives are about to pass a law allowing the fat cats in the oil industry to start drilling in wildlife refuges in Alaska (see here). I look at the United States and I despair. It is as far removed from genuine democracy as any country in the world - I suggest those idiotic right-wing patriots who think otherwise should look up the word 'oligarchy' in the dictionary and explain to me how consistently lining the pockets of big business - especially in the oil industry - makes the US anything but...
