I would like to apologise to Christopher Eccleston for my hasty comments earlier, based on what I thought were his quotes about leaving Doctor Who. It transpires that the BBC has admitted that it released the statement without even consulting him! Apparently Eccleston made the decision in January that he wouldn't be returning to the role, and that it was to be kept a secret. Perhaps in the 80s such news could have been kept under wraps, but clearly once the Sun got wind of the story, the BBC panicked and made its rash statements. For my part, you'd think I'd learn to wait until I actually heard words coming out of the actor's mouth before responding, but once again... (Hangs head in shame)
For the record, Eccleston was excellent again last Saturday in the title role, so this Who fan isn't going to find his enjoyment of the new series ruined by news of his departure it seems... (Hangs head even lower in shame)
