These two were on Channel 4 news last night discussing David Bellamy's claim that the glaciers are actually advancing, not retreating, thereby proving that climate change is a myth. Already his claim - which was published in New Scientist magazine - has been seized upon by those who don't wish to believe climate change is happening. Monbiot rebutted Bellamy's claims precisely and carefully last night - he basically used his article from The Guardian, which was published yesterday - and you can read his findings here.
I have just one question. Why is it that - despite the fact that the case for global climate change is overwhelming, and is clearly based on proper scientific procedure and fact - people like David Bellamy can get away with writing the rubbish they do? Why do people allow themselves to believe one person's claims, which turn out to be based on flawed logic and poor scientific technique (Bellamy should obviously know better - he was made to look a fool by Monbiot last night, and will no doubt look a fool the next time they meet too), while dismissing the crushing weight of evidence for the opposite view?
Ostriches with their heads in the sand. Everytime I think of the human race this image pops into my head. I wonder why?
