Britain's Big Chill

A year or two ago, the BBC transmitted a programme as part of its Horizon series on the possibility of global warming having the opposite effect on the British climate - instead of heating up, we'll actually cool down. Britain is on the same latitude as Siberia, but our climate is milder thanks to an ocean-going current known as the Gulf Stream.

Sadly for those Britons thinking they'll be rewarded for their consumption by tropical temperatures in Blighty, the theories put forward in that programme appear to be correct, if the latest evidence is to be believed. I say latest - this story was actually posted in the Sunday Times back on 8th May (see here), but I thought I'd pass it on as part of my doom-and-gloom blog... Suddenly Western Canada appears more desirable again!
