I can see the AA and RAC lining up in support of this one... Actually, it makes some sense IF there are adequate alternative forms of transport put in place - that means investing NOW in our public transport services, in particular the overcrowded rail system. I'll believe that when I see it...

One group bound to oppose this new scheme are 4x4 owners, who seem to think it's fine for them to take their gas-guzzling monstrosities and drive them all over national parkland (and sod everyone else, thank you very much). I'm not surprised by this story - a large proportion of 4x4 drivers couldn't give a flying toss about anyone else anyway.

Oh, and as for the bloke who called environmental campaigners "a bunch of idiots" (here) should take a long hard look in the mirror. He bought a Range Rover in Chelsea - clearly someone who needs one to get to work, or maybe just someone with a major compensation to account for.
