Today was the day we were hoping to exchange contracts on our property. Sadly, thanks to the laissez-faire attitude of our buyers, that will not be the case. I've spent two sleepless nights since having a conversation with our buyers on Tuesday evening where it was abundantly clear that they have no intention of doing anything to help speed this drawn-out process along.
Today also marks two months since we accepted their offer. Two months, and they still don't have a survey instructed or a mortgage offer in place. Their financial advisor has revealed to them that he dislikes our estate agent chain, which means either he is neglecting his professional responsibilities in pursuing a grudge against them or he is acting on our buyers' behalf in drawing this out. I think our buyers believe they have us backed into a corner - they will be in for a shock if they try to take advantage of their misplaced belief.
