The only surprise, after the shock of seeing the coffee go just about everywhere was how "everywhere" didn't really do that much damage. Thanks be to the keyboard, which appeared to soak up enough of the spill to prevent it infilitrating the computer itself. Four tea towels later and it's all mopped up.
The keyboard still works, but as it was continuing to drip coffee I decided to "play it safe" and buy another from our local PC World. As I needed a Firewire cable for an upcoming tutorial I'm writing I killed two birds with one stone (thus infuriating my ornithological father in the process) and did just that.
Now I'm sitting here slowly getting used to a new keyboard (I particularly like the zoom slider, which appears to work in most programs, including my blogging tool) and steeling myself for cleaning out the old one when time permits. For now, I'll let the coffee drip slowly out of it and you can breathe a huge sigh of relief as I was about to start lecturing you all on how to become more environmentally friendly in lieu of ranting. Small mercies, eh?
