I should have known that all our "targets" for reducing CO2 emissions don't include that of aircraft... See George Monbiot's sobering article here, and don't blame the lower classes for the increase in flying - they still can't afford to.
The worst comment? "If we want to stop the planet from cooking, we will simply have to stop travelling at the kind of speeds that planes permit.
"This is now broadly understood by almost everyone I meet. But it has had no impact whatever on their behaviour. When I challenge my friends about their planned weekend in Rome or their holiday in Florida, they respond with a strange, distant smile and avert their eyes. They just want to enjoy themselves. Who am I to spoil their fun? The moral dissonance is deafening."
I'm really going off this trip to Canada in September for our friend's wedding now. I guess we'll have to do it, but it will be the last trip I make to the American continent for the foreseeable future. Anyone else who springs surprise weddings on foreign soil will have to make do without our attendance, unless we can get there by boat or train!
