In concert: Depeche Mode

Took advantage of One's £13-for-two tickets to London last night to see Depeche Mode in concert at Wembley Arena. Sadly, because the last train back on these tickets was at 11.30pm we had to leave the venue early an hour before, but we saw everything except the encore. At least there was no desperate dash for the last train at London Bridge that we've had to aim for in the past when staying with Toni's folks!

Toni's a bigger fan than I, but she was disappointed for a few reasons. First and foremost, despite booking the tickets before they were even on general release we ended up right at the back of the hall - she won't be using TicketMaster again. Second, she's not overly taken with their latest album, Playing the Angel, and as they showcased quite a few songs from that album it did detract a little. I suspect that when they tour to promote their next album you won't see many from Playing the Angel being played!

In a sense, that's another reason for fans to see their heroes in concert every time they tour - it's often the only chance you get to hear certain songs performed live. Even though a-ha didn't tour the UK when they released their first comeback album, Lifelines wasn't yet released when they did their Albert Hall gig, so I was able to hear some favourites from Minor Earth, Major Sky for the only time - Little Black Heart is one particular favourite.

Speaking of a-ha neatly leads me on to the fact that the second single from Analogue is now being promoted. Cosy Prisons is a good song - I particularly like the lyrics - but I fear it won't be as big as the last single. Anyway, they were on BBC Breakfast this morning to promote it.
