A new study - published in a Murdoch rag of all places (see the Times, here) tells us that recent data suggests sea level rise could well be quicker than we think, and that levels may rise up to six metres by the end of this century if global warming isn't stopped in its tracks. That means bye bye London, New York and Tokyo, never mind large parts of Bangledesh and the Netherlands.
But rising sea levels aren't the major problem for most us - rising temperatures are, and Professor David King, the government's chief scientist, says temperatures are likely to rise by at least three degrees Celsius - see here.
Still, it's good to see our own government is leading the way in acting environmentally responsibly - like the Environment Secretary using RAF Jets to shuttle between London and her constituency (see here). It's all very well pointing out the importance of some of her other flights, but I don't care how "important" or "vital" those flights were, it sends out an appalling signal to the rest of us about our own air travel.
