Back from Corwen

Got back earlier this evening from an enjoyable break in North Wales. Toni was on an encaustic art course and I was along for a change of scenery (but still working, having bought my laptop - the 28.8kbps modem connection was the only downside of my trip, but it did mean work didn't dominate too much!). Toni thoroughly enjoyed herself - her fellow residents were a very friendly bunch covering all ages and nationalities, and we had great fun in the evenings drinking copious amounts of wine and reviewing their daily output. We stayed at the excellent bed-and-breakfast, Bron-y-Graig (see here), which I heartily recommend.

Came home via Bury, where we visited my aunt Chris and Nanna, who's been staying with her for a few days (she's not gone to see the house, mum - she told me she thought you'd want to show her that so would wait, and I confirmed that was the case!). We watched some tennis - Tim getting thrashed by Federer was not a shock, and after his good run at Queen's and battling first-round victory I'm glad to report that he's planning to play on for a couple of years yet!

Anyway, back behind my desk - two deadlines to complete for next Monday as well as talking about a cover feature for Your Family Tree (seems when I go away all the interesting work offers come in!) and a top-secret commercial pitch for another publishing house. And there was I thinking it was all slowing up for the summer... Exciting times, though, and an opportunity to branch out a little again - my work has been rather narrow these last few months (three UK mags, two Australian mags mostly).
