Cricket

England have just bowled out Pakistan for 155 in their second innings to win the test - and the series - by 167 runs. Once again Monty Panesar led the way by taking the wickets of key players at key moments, while Sajid Mahmood had his best spell as an England bowler with a fiery 4-22, including two wickets in a single over before lunch to swing the game firmly into England's favour. Another highlight was the overdue recall of Chris Read to the side in place of Geraint Jones: a first test fifty plus 38 in the first innings, plus some sharp glove work behind the stumps played another vital role in England's win.

This series victory has been achieved without the likes of Freddie Flintoff, Michael Vaughan, Simon Jones and Ashley Giles. It's been a team performance - Steve Harmison, who destroyed Pakistan in the previous test, went for over 200 runs for a single wicket here - and at last England are showing that last year's Ashes triumph wasn't a fluke. It'll still be tough getting a result in Australia this winter, but we're cementing our place as the number two side in the world at Test level, and that has to be good.
