... George Monbiot exposes a dangerous scheme being proposed by a scientist in an attempt to counteract the effects of global warming. It's not designed to cut carbon dioxide levels - instead it proposes to literally fire millions of tonnes of sulphur every single year into the upper atmosphere (see here).
I sincerely hope we reach the point where we stop trying to find magic short-term solutions - this scheme wouldn't lead to a reduction in carbon emissions, so we'd still be left with that problem (and it is a problem, unless we want to see what happens when the oceans reach a point where life itself is threatened in them).
It's about time we understood there are no shortcuts in this - we all have to make sacrifices. Some of them aren't even that huge - switch to low-power light bulbs, recycle more, grow your own food (or try to find local produce). These things won't cripple you - but if global warming continues without being checked then plenty of what is to come will...
