Elect Monbiot President now!

George Monbiot has outlined an ambitious scheme for helping to radically reduce carbon emissions using technologies already available to us (see here). I like the simplicity of them, plus the fact they make perfect sense: for example, creating a national coach network that encourages speedy coach travel between cities before transferring to your town's public transport system at the junction of a motorway. Another one: introduce (and bloody well enforce) tight new building regulations. Apparently German houses are built to the passivhaus standard (see here), which means they require no heating system, and will save up to 90 per cent of your energy bills.

Monbiot talks a lot of sense in the linked article. I just hope someone sits up and takes notice.
