There was a letter in our local Essex Wildlife Trust magazine recently disputing the fact that global warming leads to rapidly rising sea levels. The author based this wholly on his own experience - apparently the sea levels where he lives have only risen by a few millimetres in the past century.
Sadly, the Independent reports how an inhabited island in the Indian Ocean has been lost to rising sea levels (see here). This sadly reflects how we humans have buggered up our thinking - instead of thinking global and acting locally, we think local (while taking full advantage of our inefficient globalised economy), but allow our actions to have global consequences.
I would humbly suggest the author of that letter takes a wider view and checks his facts on a broader scale before posting such claptrap next time.
