They're taking away our Christmas

The right-wing rags are at it again, stirring up trouble where there is none. Today's "hilarious" claim: that companies are banning Christmas decorations from their offices (see here). It made the front page of the Sun, and the Mail is naturally fanning the flames.

The problem is, it's simply not true. Every single story claiming that we English are somehow being undermined by the misguided politically correct is blown out of all proportion. English flags banned from taxi cabs? Of course they are, they're a hazard to other drivers - most taxi drivers were only too happy to replace those flags with St George stickers instead.

This latest report claims three out of four employers had banned Christmas decorations "for fear of offending other religions". What has probably happened is that certain decorations are banned for health and safety reasons (like draping tinsel over a computer monitor for example).

For the counter argument, backed up by facts rather than supposition (and a nationalist agenda), see the Guardian's story here. Until the right-wing press start playing fair, we shouldn't give them the time of day. Sadly, you try telling that to the millions of Britons who rely on their twisted lies and half-truths for their daily dose of "news"...
