Took the car to the garage this morning, after half an hour scraping and heating up the windows so I wasn't driving dangerously. Third tried popping out twice, which isn't a problem when your hand is firmly on the gear stick! Sadly, the grinding noises in second and third suggest that major rather than minor surgery will be required. I left the car with the garage and now await confirmation of my worst fears. Put it this way - I shall be raiding my savings again and any faint chance of getting them bulked up by the end of this tax year now look remote.

I knew there was a price to pay for all this extra work I've been getting. Hmm, I wonder if now is the time to start pushing for a page rate rise? After all, I haven't had an "inflationary" pay rise since going freelance...
