Ouch!

The cost of replacing our car's gearbox - including labour and VAT - will be over £1,100. Toni's dad and brother are going to speak this afternoon about potentially managing the problem - if it's still at that stage - but I don't hold out much hope. It'll be the biggest dent in my savings since the engine was replaced, but c'est la vie.

I've just fired off an email to City Car Share - see here. It's an excellent scheme, and if a club was set up in Colchester I'd sell the fricking car tomorrow and use that instead. Otherwise I'll probably get the work done, and then think about how long I'm willing to let this car go on for - the two major components will have been replaced, so hopefully there wouldn't be any other major bills to come in the near future, but you can bet with this car's track record that all the little things will start to go, and quickly add up.

I wouldn't mind, but I hardly ever use the car personally. I'm being unfair, but right now the shock of that impending bill doesn't make me feel particularly charitable.
