Blues bounce back

We are a Premiership club again, after Derby lost 2-0 at Palace this lunchtime. Our 2-0 victory at home to Sheffield Wednesday with 10 men yesterday took us out of their reach, so with just the one game to play we can concentrate on trying to win the title, which would be our first second division championship since 1955. It would be the icing on the cake - or even the icing on the humble pie I'll be eating as Steve Bruce steered us back at the first attempt. He deserves a lot of kudos for this feat, having sold around £20m worth of talent (if Upson, Pennant, Dunn and Heskey count as "talent") and invested in wisely in young, hungry, energetic and improving players like McSheffrey, Larsson, Kelly and - hopefully - Muamba. Money has already been promised for next season, so let's hope lessons have been learned and if Bruce is to stay as manager he'll concentrate on young, fit, energetic players who can work within his tactical and strategic plans.

There's a rumour he'll leave the club having secured promotion - if so, he'll have gone out on something of a high, and at least we're better off than when he arrived five and a half years ago - but if he stays, then he's deserved the chance to try and establish us as a Premiership side once again. Remind me of this when we're bottom in October and I'm screaming for his head...
