If you'd prefer to believe that climate change isn't really happening, or that it's not caused by man-made emissions, fair enough - but don't pretend that governments are trying to conspire to use it as an excuse for hiking up taxes. The bald facts are that governments are doing their best to suppress the frightening reality of climate change.
And if you wonder why I believe Monbiot over others, remember that he is incredibly meticulous in presenting his research - he exhaustively fact-checks and cites all references, something you'll find missing from most (if not all) climate sceptics out there, particularly those from The Daily Mail, The Daily Telegraph and other right-wing newspapers.
