After yesterday's anti-climax, today's Wembley final was far more interesting. Morecambe came from a goal down to win 2-1, and even had the luxury of missing a penalty when 1-0 down too. Travel to and from the venue was hassle-free using London's public transport, and we arrived with five minutes to spare before kick-off without having to rush at any point. The stadium is beautiful, and we had seats in the lower tier to one side of the pitch - I dread how much they would have cost for a dull game like yesterday's, but for this game at least they were a reasonable £25.
In my coloured opinion, Morecambe deserved the win - after Exeter took an early lead, they barely threatened the goal, whereas by the time Morecambe equalised four minutes before half-time their goalkeeper had already pulled off a string of fine saves as well as the double penalty save. In the second half, a couple of substitutions swung the game in Exeter's favour in terms of possession, but they failed to threaten Morecambe's goal in any meaningful fashion, and a beautiful belter from just outside the box by Morecambe's hard-working (and lone) centre forward was a justifiable way to win the match.
So little Morecambe, the town where I lived for a year at uni, are now playing league football. All together now, "Bring me sunshine..."
