Now it sinks in

Teams that score last-gasp winners, like Sunderland did yesterday, are unlikely to be involved in the relegation scrap. And buoyed by that success, guess who they face next Wednesday evening? Before all that, we have the simple task of trying to prevent Chelsea setting a new record of unbeaten home matches (64). Today's match is almost certainly a write-off, but we have to hope the team recover from whatever happens to beat Sunderland at home in mid-week (although right now I'd take a point).

Yep, the excitement of the new season is wearing off already.

Still, we had good weather and a good result yesterday when we saw Ipswich thrash Sheffield Wednesday 4-1. Wednesday's season got off to the worst possible start when they conceded a penalty inside the opening minute - after that, they never recovered. Ipswich appear to have unearthed a decent striking partnership in Alan Lee and Pablo Counago, so could well be a dark horse for the play-offs.
