Blues 1, Newcastle 1

Blues hung on for a point last night - after bossing the first half and going in 1-0 up, the second-half performance was like chalk from cheese and we ended up lucky to escape with a point. The game turned on one incident before half time when Nicky Butt swung twice at Sebastian Larsson and apparently caused medial ligament damage, which could mean a lengthy spell on the sidelines for Blues' most creative midfielder. The irony is, the intent was there for all to see, but Butt didn't even get a yellow card. If people see this as some kind of "evening up" for what happened with Taylor and Eduardo, then you don't know the game of football. Butt's challenge was the sort where the player clearly wanted to get the man (twice in his case, and all because he ended up in the advertising hoardings after Larsson levered him off the ball earlier). God, even I think I sound like a moaner, but there you go.

If the damage is serious, then at least I can write off Blues' survival chances here and now. Without Larsson on the pitch we were a shadow of our former selves - Kapo may come back at the weekend, but without one decent creative midfielder we're as good as finished.
