Blues win their third match of the season against our "close friends" from Aston, proving that there is a sense of natural justice in the world. Of course I want Blues to win every time, but while Villa fans and players write inflammatory material tinged with the arrogance and ignorance so beloved of the Aston Village Idiot's Society, they don't deserve to beat "small time, Small Heath".

More importantly, it's our third win of the season, and takes us three points clear of the relegation zone. We were superb in the first half, poor in the second (too similar to the Blackburn game for my liking), which is why I'm not convinced our season will necessarily turn around here. There were plenty of plusses though - Heskey and Morrison make an excellent partnership up front, and David Dunn was always threatening. Our central defence - particularly Matthew Upson in the wake of some nasty chanting from the crowd - was solid, and Darren Carter and Robbie Savage played really well in the centre of midfield.

Oh, and Steve Bruce had a message for Villa's Olof Mellberg who'd told the Evening Mail that he didn't like us as a club (including both players and fans) and could never see himself playing for us: "I didn't have to do much of a teamtalk, the boy Mellberg did all my talking for me. He said he didn't like us and would never play for the Blues. Well, let me tell you Mellberg, you're not good enough to play for the Blues."
