Bye bye Blues...

According to The Evening Mail (here), Bowyer rejected a move to Birmingham last night because of the fans' petition. The club is doing its utmost to change his mind, to the point where Steve Bruce has said, "You can talk all you want about his reputation and everything else, that doesn't interest me. He's a damned good footballer who would be a major asset to our team."

I have cancelled my True Blue subscription as a result of these comments. I've seen people hounded off Internet forums for daring to speak out against this proposed signing. If nothing else, the subject of Lee Bowyer is incredibly divisive. His last altercation happened less than three months ago when he clubbed a teammate, got both of them sent off and torpedoed Newcastle's season. If Bowyer doesn't "need any more grief in his life" then he needs to make major strides to improve his conduct. He does not deserve the luxury of being given a last chance; he should have to earn it. If we do sign him, then I would love it if he did that - if he repaired his reputation both on or off the pitch, or at least made a genuine effort to do so. Sadly, there is little evidence that after all the previous incidents he's been involved in he's made such an effort.
