No, not another example of the human race at its worst, but the band. We went to a forest in Kent last night to see Toni's heroes in action - as a live band, Madness are one of the best, and it helps that they can bang out a 90-minute set packed to the rafters with hits. It's still a surprise that their '99 comeback album wasn't a huge hit (although it did spawn the band's first top 10 single since 1984, re-releases notwithstanding), but then we do live in a country where gimmicky ring tones now dominate our music charts...
One surprise was the absence of the band's guitarist - according to the official site he's left the band. His replacement was top-notch, but he wasn't introduced. Toni and I were left to speculate as to whether he was one of the band's offspring, or someone completely new.
Madness have a new album out in August - if it's as good as Wonderful, let's hope the record-buying public support it.
