A trip to Sudbury

We travelled the arduous (sarcasm alert) 16 miles to Sudbury today to see how mum and dad were settling in. They've got a fair bit unpacked - the lounge and kitchen are practically done, but the bedrooms are still full of boxes. They both seem very happy there - a welcome relief after the grief of selling their home and getting out of Wales.

Dad wanted some help demolishing some wooden partitions in the garage - kudos to the previous owners for nailing them into the concrete floor (that'll explain the cracks then). A hot, sweaty and dusty experience, but we managed it in less than an hour. I also had my hair cut and set up Lou's PC as it's the only one with a dial-up modem (their broadband still hasn't been activated).

We went to the local pub for lunch - trouble with the card machine meant I ended up paying, but as my parents are retired surely their well-off son can treat them once in a while?

Got home to see the highlights of Blues' 2-1 win over Colchester yesterday. A little unconvincing maybe, but I saw enough to suggest we'll be in the right half of the division this season. Dad and I both agreed it felt strangely comfortable being back in this league - the Premiership feels so fake now we're on the outside looking in. This is where the real football takes place - I hope ColU take heart from their performance and do enough to stay up. If we thought we might be able to get tickets for Tuesday night I'd be tempted to pop along for their first home game against Plymouth, but we'll have to see how the attendances pan out - there's always Portman Road (Ipswich Town) 20 minutes away on the train...
