I'd barely got out of the shower when Toni rang to tell me she had a flat tyre. Thankfully, although the tyre was deflating as she reached London Road (a passenger leaped out of the car behind to tell her what had happened), she was able to get to work. By the time I got there just before 2pm when Toni finished work the tyre was well and truly flat. I was dreading the job for some unknown reason - a combination of today's lifestyles whereby it's easier to call out the breakdown people than fix minor car problems yourself plus a fear that it wouldn't be as straightforward as it should be.
I can't believe this is the first time I've changed a tyre, and I don't think it is. Suffice to say the job took around ten minutes, was as simple as it should have been and I was sitting in the car trying to clean the oil off my hands by the time Toni finished for the day. We definitely need a new set of tyres, so that looks like £300 down the drain. So much for earning a little bit extra last month - wiped out (and then some!) by the need for new tyres. Becoming a zero-car family has never been more attractive than now...
